APPRENTICE PAINTER AND DECORATOR
Main Purpose of Job: Painters and decorators use a range of coverings to enhance and protect surfaces. These surfaces could include plaster, metal and wood. To be a painter and decorator, you should have good practical and creative skills. You will need to be able to work carefully and pay attention to detail.

- Hours of work: Approx. 39 hours a week
- Wage: minimum wage for age
- Location: Bolton (Willingness and ability to travel is essential)
- Training: NVQ Level 2
- Accountable to: Site Manager

JOB SPECIFICATION
- Measuring surface areas to work out how much paint or wall covering you need
- Stripping off old wallpaper or paint
- Filling holes and cracks and making sure surfaces are level
- Preparing surfaces with primer and undercoat
- Mixing paint to the right shade, either by hand or using computerised colour-matching equipment
- Applying layers of paint and hanging wallpaper
- Tidying up after finishing a job
- Completing paperwork accurately in relation to site activities
- Maintaining a healthy, safe and secure working environment for self and colleagues
- Providing a polite, helpful and flexible service to clients (internal and external) and the general public
PERSON SPECIFICATION
- To be a painter and decorator, you should have:
- Have or be willing to gain a CSCS card within six weeks of appointment
- At least five GCSEs (grades 9–4), including Maths and English
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Interest in practical, hands-on work
- Reliable, hardworking, and a strong team player
- Good communication skills
- Willing to work towards a driving qualification during your apprenticeship
