Ruby’s remarkable achievements at Post 16Alternative Provision
School wasn’t the right fit for Ruby. Having not attended school for the last three years, missing years nine, ten and eleven, Ruby became NEET (not in education, employment or training). She was referred to the Kings Academy by Flintshire County Council’s progression team.
When interviewed by Kings Academy staff for their alternative provision programme, offering training and a pathway into hair and beauty, Ruby was enthusiastic and honest. She told them that she struggled to concentrate in big environments, if there are a lot of people or a lot of noise, and they assured her that the class size would be no greater than five, this convinced her that she could commit to the programme.
From the moment Ruby joined, it became clear that the environment offered at Kings Academy was what she needed to flourish. The smaller class size allowed her to receive individual attention and support, enabling her to thrive academically, despite her previous non-attendance at school.
Ruby is delighted to have completed two exams and two assignments, achieving an impressive 90% in all of them. This success was not just a reflection of her capabilities but also a testament to the nurturing environment provided by the programme.
With newfound motivation and self-belief, Ruby’s confidence has soared.
Inspired by her achievements, Ruby has taken a significant step forward and secured a part-time job at a local salon. This hands-on experience is not only accelerating her learning but is also opening doors to new opportunities that once felt unreachable.
Ruby’s journey illustrates the transformative power of tailored education and support. Without this programme and the dedication of the tutors at Kings Academy she may never have experienced the encouragement she clearly needed. Her incredible progress serves as a reminder that with the right resources and environment, young people can overcome obstacles and reach their full potential. Ruby is not just turning her life around, she is paving the way for a brighter future, proving that persistence and opportunity can lead to success.
Ruby said:
“I can’t express how much this opportunity has changed my life, I would never have gone to college and don’t know what I would have done with my time instead. In the future I would like to help others like me who don’t feel that school is right for them.”
Ceri, course leader, Kings Academy said:
“We are so very proud of Ruby’s achievements so far and looking forward to her continued success and celebrating gaining her qualifications.”
