From Military Police to Gas Engineer - Meet Laura
Starting a new career can feel daunting, but Laura’s story shows it is possible. After leaving the Military Police, Laura was unsure what her next step would be. Trades had not really been presented as an option, and navigating civilian recruitment was unfamiliar.
Through our ex-military pathway, in partnership with Brookhouse Training, Women and Manual Trades supported Laura every step of the way. We helped her explore opportunities, build confidence, and connect with an employer ready to invest in her skills. With our support, Laura secured a role with Dodd Group and is now thriving as a Gas Engineer.
Laura shares her journey in this video, including the challenges she faced, what a typical day in her role looks like, and her advice for other women considering a career in the trades.
At Women and Manual Trades, we help women, whether leaving the military or looking for a new career, explore, access, and succeed in trade roles.
