Training

Whether you're starting out or looking to retrain, we offer a range of trade training opportunities designed to support women at every stage of their journey.

3:2 Initiative

The 3:2 Paid Placement Program is in partnership with local colleges, and is aimed at women enrolled on construction trade courses who were not currently working in the construction industry. This program:

  • Provides paid employment with a construction contractor in the trade the women are training in
  • Enables the students to work part-time on the weekdays that they are not attending college (3 days at college, 2 days at work)
  • Ensures the students are paid minimum wage for their age or above
  • Enables the students to work alongside a tradesperson in the discipline of their chosen trade
  • Guarantees the students are considered for a further contract as an apprentice on completion of their Diploma or into full time employment.

The 3:2 program will have widespread benefits, providing career opportunities and financial support to women, fostering diversity within the construction industry, and creating stronger partnerships between colleges, employers, and social value teams.

SPAB William Morris Craft Fellowship

The SPAB William Morris Craft Fellowship is a prestigious annual training programme designed for skilled craftspeople who want to broaden their experience in working with historic buildings. Over the course of several intensive training blocks, Fellows gain hands-on experience with traditional building skills, repair techniques, and specialist conservation approaches, guided by leading experts across the UK. The programme also offers a unique Millwright Fellowship, supporting the repair and maintenance of historic wind and watermills – a critically endangered craft. Successful applicants receive a bursary (£8,400 for the standard Fellowship, £12,600 for the Millwright Fellowship) to support them during training. This is a demanding but rewarding opportunity to develop new skills, connect with other craftspeople, and help safeguard heritage for the future.
